Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy
Open Your Mind and Experience the Shift in Perspective You Have Been Needing
One therapeutic modality I offer is called Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP). KAP is a holistic modality in which ketamine is used as a complement to psychotherapy to facilitate increased neuroplasticity associated with a shift in awareness that helps you view your problems in a new way. Ketamine is a safe, legal medication prescribed by a medical professional I consult with to treat a variety of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, and trauma. It can have rapidly-acting antidepressant and mood-enhancing effects. For interested and clinically-appropriate clients, the combination of ketamine with psychotherapy allows for processing of these effects so that they are able to be integrated into your daily life.

Ketamine is a legal, safe and effective medicine used to treat a variety of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety and PTSD. Ketamine has rapidly-acting antidepressant and mood-enhancing effects, which can begin to take effect within 1-2 hrs. after treatment. It works by blocking the brain’s NMDA receptors as well as by stimulating AMPA receptors, which are thought to help form new synaptic connections and boost neural circuits that regulate stress and mood. Ketamine has also been shown to enhance overall neuroplasticity for lasting symptom improvement.
Ketamine can be administered in a variety of ways. In my work we only use the sublingual lozenge form prescribed by an experienced medical professional from the organization, Journey Clinical, that I consult with.

The effects of ketamine, which most patients find pleasant, last for approximately 45 minutes. These effects can make you feel “far from” your body, and facilitate shifts in perception that can often feel expansive in nature. You’ll be lying down in a comfortable position during the experience, which in total lasts about 3 hours. I will be there with you the whole time to help you process your experience according to your preferences and what is best for your treatment goals.
Many people feel a softening of the rigidity that is often associated with many mental health struggles. This is due to the ketamine interrupting the default mode network of the brain and allowing new neural connections to form, which helps you to have more space from rigid thoughts, beliefs, and patterns that keep you stuck. This allows for new ways of being with yourself and the world around you to be imagined and experienced.

If you would like to explore the possibility of working with me on KAP, contact me via the link on this webpage or call my office to ask any questions, discuss eligibility, and take the next steps. A meeting with a medical professional from Journey Clinical is required to ensure eligibility and safety. In my work preparation and integration is extremely important. So prior to your ketamine experience we will meet for at least several sessions to clarify your intention and develop our treatment goals. After your experience we will also meet for at least several sessions, so that the insights gained are maintained and integrated into your daily life.
